`Satsuma Heroes' commendation enterprise`

a goodwill mission of Kagoshima City junior high school students

    Around the Kiso three rivers where we live is an area zero-meters above sea level. Once 
we have typhoons or heavy rains, we always suffer great damage because of three rivers'     
floods and over flowing. Especially the damage of the Isewan typhoon hitting the Tokai area 
in the 34th year of the Showa era was very big in Gifu and Aichi Prefectures. A lot of lives
and their fortune were lost by the typhoon. Banks that were made in a modern prevention of  
floods engineering broke down in various places. But banks around the Sembon-matsubara      
that were made by the Satsuma Hanshi about 240 years ago in the 4th year of Horeki (1754 )  
were not moved even in a torrent and a muddy stream , and not broken down.                  
     We Ogaki Seinen Club is moved by this fact. We've had a Satsuma Heroes' commendation   
enterprise to leave Satsuma Heroes' greatness and achievements forever since in 37th year   
of the Showa. Especially we invite Kagoshima junior high school students as a goodwill      
mission, have them stay with families of the club members. We also show people from         
Kagoshima the remains and the histric spots of the Horeki flood control that predecessors   
accomplished and have them study about it. We take part in the Chisui Shrine springE       
autumn big festivals and Kagoshima City Shotoku memorial services for the dead. And we      
never stop thanking them.                                                                   
     We Ogaki Seinen Club will not forget to thank Satsuma Hanshi for their flood control.  
We think that we should offer our endless appreciation in all sincerity, besides it is our  
mission to hand down their great works with our favors to our remotest descendants, too.    
We believe that we would rather wish happiness of others than mine and we need to serve     
without begrudging our good faith.                                                          
     Also in this summer, about 30 junior high school students from Kagoshima visit Ogaki   
City as a goodwill mission .
